Just before we head back to our hotel for the day, we've gone back over to see our friends at MeFoto to have a closer look at the new Air Series.

The Air Series will see an update in the BackPacker, RoadTrip and GlobeTrotter range as well as the WalkAbout Monopod

As well as the new leg lock design, the MeFoto Air has another interesting trick up its sleeve – by removing the centre column and attaching an included phone clamp, the tripod can be converted into a selfie stick. A Bluetooth remote attaches to the handle so the user can remotely trigger his or her mobile device.

The Air series will be available starting November in plenty of bold colours and in a variety of sizes, including a monopod.

A meander over to Panasonic to see their latest offering.  When we had finally got through the crowd, we were able to see the exciting GH5 which is currently listed as 'In Development' - and we can't wait.

London Store Manager Artual Patel also got his hands on the newly announced Lumix LX15 Premium Compact.

Over to Fujifilm now.  This is the one that has got most people talking - the Fujifilm GFX 50S: a mirrorless medium format camera.

Some people have said that it is too big, going to be too heavy, but as Managing Director Jason Mitchell has said, "It feels just right - everything you would come to expect from both a medium format camera, and from Fujifilm"

Good morning.  As some of our team prepare to take a 5 hour train journey to Cologne (yes, it really does take that long), we thought we would share an interesting piece of news that we came across over dinner last night...

Western Digital has introduced the first ever 1TB SDXC card, doing so under its recently acquired SanDisk brand. Though the card will not be available on the market anytime soon, the prototype does serve to highlight the next level in SD card capacity. This isn't the first time SanDisk has unveiled a high-capacity prototype at Photokina; in 2014, the company unveiled its then-prototype for a 512GB SDXC card.

'Just a few short years ago the idea of a 1TB capacity point in an SD card seemed so futuristic – it’s amazing that we’re now at the point where it’s becoming a reality,” said Stargate Studios CEO Sam Nicholson. '…High-capacity cards allow us to capture more without interruption, streamlining our workflow, and eliminating the worry that we may miss a moment because we have to stop to swap out cards.'

Though Western Digital is showcasing the prototype at Photokina, it has not stated when it anticipates the card being available commercially, nor what consumers can expect to pay.  This card, when available is going to be ideal for event photographers shooting exclusively in RAW Format as well as videographers shooting as much as possible without having to worry about capacity on the card.

This would be a perfect add-on to any shooting in 4K, especially on devices that exceed the traditional 29min 59sec time limit on video files.

Well...what a day yesterday was!  As well as the Olympus announcements (already the 25mm f1.2 Pro is getting popular), news from Panasonic, the big pull so far was the development announcment of the Fujifilm GFX 50S (see below for details).

But, even as the rest of our team prepare to join us in Germany, more lovelies have been announced...

Sigma had added three new lenses to their ever growing range...and they look gorgeous.

The long-rumored and long-awaited 85mm F1.4 Art, the 12-24mm F4 Art, and the 500mm F4 DG OS HSM Sport.

The 85mm F1.4 Art has been designed with resolution and bokeh in mind. A stronger HSM AF motor produces 1.3x the torque of the previous setup and hopes to improve autofocus speed as well.

Fulfilling the exacting standards of the Art line, the SIGMA 85mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art delivers both of these elements at the highest level. The bokeh effect is so precise, you can focus on the pupil of the subject’s eye while blurring the eyelashes. PEN E-PL8, 12-100mm f4 IS PRO, 30mm f3.5 ED MACRO, 25mm f1.2 ED PRO and the development of the OM-D E-M1 Mark II

E-PL8

The Olympus PEN family has a head-turning autumn debutante: the E-PL8, which blends distinctly feminine curves with the seamless social skills of bloggers, fashionistas and other switched on millennials. The new shape and leather look finish add an eye-catching flourish to the most individual of outfits while Olympus technology makes it easier than ever to take and upload top notch still and video to social media – with image quality that stands out from the smartphone crowd.

Despite its metal body and interchangeable lenses, the E-PL8 is light and compact enough to slip easily into a small bag. 14.32: Speaking of Fujifilm...

FUJIFILM Corporation has just announced the development of the mirrorless digital camera system “GFX” to deliver the highest image quality in the history of Fujifilm electronic imaging. The company will release mirrorless digital camera FUJIFILM GFX 50S which features the FUJIFILM G Format 43.8 × 32.9mm sensor with 51.4 megapixels and six lenses that will be introduced under the new FUJINON GF Lens series of interchangeable lenses after early 2017 sequentially for professional photographers and photo enthusiasts. The new series deliver the highest image quality Fujifilm offers as well as outstanding expandability and functionality as a camera system.

Over the course of its proud history that extends over 80 years, Fujifilm has developed and manufactured photographic films with advanced image resolution and outstanding colour and tone reproduction to meet the needs of professional photographers and photo enthusiasts, an extensive range of professional cameras under the consistent philosophy that “a camera is a tool for producing artwork,” and high quality FUJINON lenses which forms an indispensable part of camera systems. All these technologies have been amassed to develop the GFX, which uses a medium-format sensor to achieve the highest level of image quality and a completely new type of mirrorless system, and its companion FUJINON GF lenses.

A new lineup of FUJINON GF lenses, designed specifically for the GFX, supports the new G Mount. Taking advantage of the mirrorless system’s structure, the G Mount has the short flange back distance of just 26.7mm to shorten the back focus distance as much as possible. • 6. Wide “GF45mmF2.8 R WR” (equivalent to 35mm in the 35mm format)

14.16: Wow....was NOT expecting that.  We were invited in to a room by our friends at Sony whereby they have just revealed the A99 II

Announcing the top-end full-frame Alpha-mount camera, the a99 II. Featuring a 42.2MP sensor, 79-point hybrid AF system and 12 fps shooting, the a99 II sounds like an impressive beast. As with its predecessor, this is a Translucent Mirror camera, which splits incoming light between the sensor and an AF module near the EVF. As with all SLTs, this design reduces light to the sensor by about 1/2EV.

The 42.2MP BSI-CMOS sensor, likely the same as the one in the a7R II, is paired with Sony's BIONZ X processor, allowing for 12 fps burst shooting with continuous AF/AE and a top ISO of 102,400. The sensor lacks a low-pass filter, maximizing resolution. All Sony Alpha-mount cameras have in-body image stabilization, and the a99 II one-ups previous models by offering 5-axis IS, with Sony claiming 4.5-stop shake reduction. The effects of the stabilizer can be seen with a half-press of the shutter release button.

The camera uses a Hybrid Phase Detection AF system that combines 399 points on the focal plane with 79 all cross-type points on the sensor. Sony says this allows for ultra-fast AF speeds and sensitivity down to -4EV.  The camera is able to shoot continuously at 8 fps with continuous AF and very little EVF blackout.

12.36: And 'HELLO!' from Cologne on a rather sunny day.  Today, the air is buzzing with announcements and rumoured arrivals so lets get you started with what has JUST happened...

Panasonic have set out their stall with four announcements: the Lumix G80, the Lumix FZ2000 (the replacement for the awesome FZ1000) and the LX15, as well as something gorgeous coming soon.

LX15

The LUMIX LX15 is the next generation of Panasonic’s world-renowned LX premium compact camera series. Integrating 4K video recording capability, it’s the perfect choice for enthusiasts who want to release their creativity anytime, anywhere.

Great low-light performance and beautiful bokeh expression

The LUMIX LX15 includes the newly-developed F1.4-F2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens system with 3x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-72mm). The lens lets a large volume of light into the camera, enabling the high-speed shutter release to capture clear, sharp images even in low-lit situations. It also allows for beautiful bokeh, making the subject stand out for impressive photos and videos.

FZ2000

These features elevate the LUMIX FZ2000 far beyond the limitations of a conventional compact camera with high-performance photography and outstanding video recording. The LUMIX FZ2000 is the perfect device for both semi-professional videographers and photography enthusiasts wishing to experience professional shooting capabilities in a compact device.

Featuring the new LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT photo/video hybrid lens

The LUMIX FZ2000 features the newly-developed LEICA DC VARIO-ELMART lens system which has a 20x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-480mm) and F2.8-4.5. Comprising of 16 lenses in 11 groups, the lens system boasts high optical performance with minimum ghost and flaring and a guide-pole mechanism commonly used in professional video cameras.

Together with the inner zoom structure, the guide-pole realises exceptional barycentric stability for smooth, stable zooming, where image shift is dramatically suppressed by approximately 80% compared with its predecessor, the LUMIX FZ1000.

G80

Panasonic today unveils the rugged LUMIX DMC-G80, the latest addition to its range of high-performance Compact System Cameras (CSC). Incorporating a host of advanced technologies and practical functions inside a durable and compact body, the LUMIX DMC-G80 has been designed to excel in the field.

Stunning clarity with every shot

The new LUMIX DMC-G80 features an updated Image Stabilization system – the 5-axis Dual I.S. MK II By incorporating new gyro-sensor technology, the O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer, 2-axis) and B.I.S. (Body Image Stabilizer, 5-axis) are able to work in perfect harmony and with outstanding accuracy. With improved suppression of blur, resulting pictures and videos remain beautifully crisp despite vibrations caused by shaking hands or traversing outdoor terrain.

With the LUMIX DMC-G80’s ability to analyse shooting conditions, including focal length, the new Dual I.S. system is able to utilise max. 5-stop slower shutter speed. SLOW DOWN - no, its not out yet, but it will be!

Panasonic today announced that it has developed a new Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) Camera LUMIX GH5 that is capable of recording smooth, high-precision 4K 60p/50p and faithful 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video for the first time in the world. This premium camera will offer exceptional performance for professional photographers, videographers and emerging photo/video-hybrid creators.

It also features '6K PHOTO' which extracts approx.18-megapixel still images from ultra high-quality video with approx. 9 times the pixel count of Full-HD. The new LUMIX GH5 is scheduled for commercialisation and introduction to the global market in early 2017.

What a busy day...

First out of the blocks, following on the EOS 5D Mark IV, is Canon with 3 new products.

Introducing the EOS M5 - their fourth venture into the mirrorless world.  Now, we can guess what you might be thinking, looking back on the previous EOS M-series - but stop, this is nothing like those. THIS is one to take note of.

The EOS M5 camera features a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, DIGIC 7 Image Processor and the fastest AF speed in the EOS M-series, enabling photographers to capture clear, sharp, high-resolution images and Full HD videos. It is also the first in the EOS camera line to include the low energy Bluetooth® Smart feature that can maintain a constant connection with your compatible smartphone or tablet when you use the Canon camera connect application and both applications are active.

In fact, it has a very similar specification to the EOS 80D and would go up as a direct competitor to Sony's A6300 and the Panasonic GX8.

The camera is available as a body; with the 15-45mm or the new 18-150mm Lens.

Speaking of the Canon 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM lens...(see what we did there)...

The first all in one / travel zoom lens for the EOS M-series. Featuring an 8.3x optical zoom (28.8-240mm 35mm equiv.), 4-Stop optical Image Stabilizer and STM focusing technology.

The Canon 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM, available in two colours, is the perfect and versatile lens for you to use in any given situation.

Zeiss's turn today for another launch - billed as the perfect tool for the inconspicuous observer, and available in a Sony E-Mount fit, Zeiss have announced the Loxia 85mm f2.4.

Sony have announced a new lens aimed directly at moviemakers using the FS-Series and A-Series cameras.

Their latest offering, back in to the movie world is the 18-110mm f4 G PZ OOS (SELP18110G).

This powered zoom lens delivers optimum performance in Super 35mm/APS-C moviemaking applications, starting at 18mm wide-angle and extending through an impressive 6.1x zoom range with a constant F4 maximum aperture. G Lens optical performance delivers image quality that is suitable for 4K throughout the zoom range, right out to the image periphery.

Zeiss's turn today as they announce three new additions to the MILVUS range: a 15mm f2.8, 18mm f2.8 and a 135mm f2.

Counting these three, there are now nine lenses in the Milvus range. Zeiss puts an emphasis on robust construction with their full metal barrels, video-friendly features and optical designs that minimise chromatic aberration and distortion.

Photokina always has an array of brand new lenses.  We've already seen offering's from Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm, and not to be outdone, is the latest offering from Tamron.

The Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3 DI VC USD G2.  The 'G2' stands for second generation, reflecting several improvements to the design.

These improvements include more effective image stabilization (to a claimed 4.5 stops of benefit), faster AF speed and compatibility with Tamron's 'TAP-in' Console, for lens firmware updates and customization. A 'Flex Zoom Lock' mechanism has also been added to keep the lens barrel fixed at any focal length. Flourine coating has been added to the front lens element, and the entire lens barrel offers greater moisture resistance.

At the same time, the lens manufacturer has also announced two new teleconverters, designed to be used with select telephoto Tamron lenses, starting with the company's new SP 150-600mm F5-6.3 Di VC USD G2. The 1.4X and 2X converters are moisture and dust-resistant, and turn the 150-600mm into a 210-600mm or 300-1200mm equivalent zoom, respectively. Both teleconverters use Tamron's BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings to reduce ghosting and flare, and the 2X converter uses a low-dispersion element to suppress aberrations.

Sony have started their Photokina campaign with the announcement of a 50mm f2.8 FE Macro (SEL50M28)

Ideal for everyday photography, this versatile 50mm macro lens features a F2.8 maximum aperture that offers outstanding image quality and bokeh, while its 1:1 macro capability allows the photographer to get sharp close-up shots of their subject. Additionally, its comprehensive range of controls including focus-mode switch, focus-range limiter and the focus-hold button ensures a quality macro shooting experience for a wide range of users.

Canon have announced 3 major updates on some of thier popular lines.  The top of the list is the EOS 5D Mark IV - the fourth generation of the award winning and popular EOS 5D-series. Standing out from it's predecessor, the Mark IV boasts a new 30.4 Million Pixels CMOS Sensor, ISO Range 100-102,400 (Expandable), Dual Pixel AF for smooth focusing in LiveView/Movie (as seen in EOS 80D), 61 AF Points, but the one thing that everyone was screaming for, and Canon finally answered with, was the inclusion of 4K movie capture.

This camera provides an incredible amount of detail in it's full frame sensor and will not disappoint event photographers, or even videographers with the amount it captures.

Along with the Mark IV, Canon have updated the 16-35mm f2.8L with a Mark III version, and (finally) a 24-105mm f4 L IS USM II.  Both lenses are incredibly easy to use, producing pinsharp results regardless of camera body and the 24-105mm f4 L IS USM II with be packaged with the EOS 5D Mark IV as part of a kit.  The 16-35mm f2.8 L USM III is an ideal lens for either landscape photography, group shots, or anything where space might be limited.

Also announced today, from Fujifilm is the 23mm f2 R XF WR.

The XF23mmF2 is a compact, wide-angle lens that weighs just 180g and features fast AF for enjoying snapshots with ease. Weather and dust-resistant, it’s capable of operating at low temperatures.

Nikon have announced the D3400 and a new 70-300mm DX AF-P VR lens
